Algeria’s state grains agency, OAIC, recently purchased around 600,000 to 700,000 metric tons of milling wheat through an international tender.

The wheat was purchased at a price of approximately $244.50 per metric ton, cost and freight (c&f) included. The tender, which nominally sought 50,000 metric tons, is typical of Algeria’s purchasing strategy, where they often acquire significantly more than the initial quantity requested. The wheat is intended for shipment in two periods during July, with the first batch scheduled for July 1-15 and the second for July 16-31. While the tender is open to various origins, traders note that French wheat is unlikely to be part of this deal due to ongoing diplomatic tensions.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  • Tender Details: The tender sought milling wheat, and the final purchase was significantly larger than the nominal amount of 50,000 tons.
